AbbVie and Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University ETAM Industrial Product Design Application and Research Center; a special collaboration was realized based on the dressing problem experienced by patients due to the lesions of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), a chronic painful and inflammatory skin disease, especially in the armpits, groin, buttocks and under the breast.
The project, which started by considering the difficulties faced by a Hidradenitis patient in daily life, started after cooperation with the university, patients and physicians. In-depth research was conducted on what Hidradenitis patients need and it was aimed to make their daily lives easier.
The project and the underwear designs were shared with the public at a press conference held at the Grand Hyatt Regency Hotel on June 20, 2017. In the meeting attended by AbbVie General Manager Mete Hüsemoğlu, Hacettepe University Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine Hospital Department of Skin and Venereal Diseases Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Nilgün Atakan, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University ETAM Industrial Product Design Application and Research Center Consultant Prof. Dr. Süha Erda and HS Patient İsmail Okan Altıok, detailed information was given about HS disease, the start of the project, working processes and designs.
The press conference and subsequent media communication efforts resulted in 74 news coverage in print and online media. With print news alone, 7 newspaper pages of visibility and a reach of 2 million 722 thousand 132 people were achieved.
